The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a New Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The buzz about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley shared a mysterious image of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio warned that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction implies that the team is likely building a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a teaser video is available.

What Makes Divinity Special

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are defined by detailed worlds, branching plots, and complex character building—qualities that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities that are viable with a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also notoriously flexible, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you recalled something a non-human character said.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is these creative systems that lead fans and critics to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
