Fall Classic Final Game Attracts 51M Audience Members In the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The thrilling 11-inning clash that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 attracted a total over 50 million spectators across the United States, Canada, and Japanese markets. Major League Baseball reported this marks the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Broadcast Viewership Details

The Saturday memorable contest drew 27.33M viewers on Fox channels, Fox Deportes and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent increase compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English-language broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it averaged 12M. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated Fall Classic game on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has seen viewership growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the opening game telecast on Univision, the total US average reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged over 8 million viewers, an 8% rise compared to last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 different tongues.
